About this event
A song of love, desire, and loss, directed and performed by Italian-American actress Leda Kreider, inspired by Crave, one of Sarah Kane’s sharpest works.
“I have no music, Christ, I wish I had music. Instead I only have words,” writes Sarah Kane, the British playwright and cult author of the contemporary theatre scene. Her bare, cutting language is the beating heart of Crave, a work that delves into the abyss of love, desire, and loss, directed and performed by Leda Kreider—an Italian-American actress skilled at inhabiting multiple languages, states, and identities. Four voices—A, B, C, M—chase one another, overlap, and contradict each other in a fragmented musical flow, like an emotional score. One of these voices remains in English, the original language of the text, creating a field of tension and resonance with Italian, a dialogue between the performer’s two linguistic souls. The sparse stage, traversed by mobile structures, soundscapes, and projected images, becomes a mental environment in which body, word, and sound pursue one another. A bitter, visionary song that gives shape to a radical reflection on the present: “only love can save me, and it is love that has destroyed me.”
