Alice in Wandering

Premiere: Teatro Arena del Sole, Bologna, 24/02/2026

About this event

The true and surreal story of Marta and her premature decline intertwines with that of Alice in Wonderland. An ironic, anarchic, and delicate tale about the fragility of reality.

A house that changes shape. A clock that no longer keeps time. A husband who has become the White Rabbit. Written and directed by Chiara Callegari and Simone Luglio—previously together on the award-winning L’ultima estate—the play is a real and surreal journey into the world of Marta, a young woman living with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Freely inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the production blends fairy tale and personal experience to poetically and ironically explore fragility, care, loss, and love. The bare stage transforms when Wonderland bursts in and upends its rules, and our Alice finds herself in a world where rooms change places, cats offer advice, caterpillars prescribe folk dances, and the flowers in the garden number more than 55 million. In an urgent attempt to stop time before memories dissolve, control is relinquished to embrace the absurd and slip down the Rabbit Hole.
