Tchaïka
Behind the scenes of a theatre, an elderly actress in the twilight of her life no longer knows what she is doing there. Approaching her, a woman reminds her of the reason for her presence: to play the role of Arkadina in Chekhov’s The Seagull. It will be her last role. Her memory is faltering, and even though she no longer fully remembers who she is or what her role is, she intends to ensure the performance goes ahead. Along the way, fiction and reality intersect. She tries to follow the plot of the play. There are dialogues with her son and the repeated abandonments of Trigorin, her lover, which take her back to her past.
She reconnects with the young actress she once was, with the role of Nina, her favourite, that of the young actress who continues regardless of everything. Here is Tchaika fighting, finding her balance, creating a new theatre, another space for play and life. As in The Seagull, Tchaïka is between past and future, between disillusionment and hope, and continues on her path, despite ruin. Told through the plot of a dream, this show for one actress and one puppet is the first by the Belgian-Chilean company Belova-Iacobelli.
