Orgasmo

Young playwright and director Niccolò Fettarappa, one of the most original voices of the new Italian theatre scene, brings to the stage a surreal satire on the end of eros in a society increasingly obsessed with productivity. Fettarappa also performs, alongside Gianni D’Addario, Lorenzo Guerrieri and Rebecca Sisti. Orgasmo. Prosa dispiaciuta sulla fine del sesso starts from a paradoxical premise: by 2030, the last orgasm on Earth will take place. From this starting point, it develops into a dystopian comedy about the “erotic annihilation of the individual”, where desire seems to give way to the only pleasure still deemed acceptable: productivity. The play, a finalist for the 2023 Pier Vittorio Tondelli / Riccione Teatro Award, has been published in ERT and Luca Sossella Editore’s Linea series. The Italy imagined by the show is swept up in a series of absurd events: a horde of bears with uncontrollable sexual appetites; a journalist and a zoologist appointed by the government to investigate the phenomenon; and a couple in crisis who drift through inertia, surviving on newspapers and living-room exercise.
With its sharp, irreverent humour, Orgasmo observes a present in which even pleasure risks being absorbed by the logic of performance and productivity.
