Alaska
A theatre performance about the search for happiness in a violent world
About this event
Mariupol Theatre of Ukraine in Exile presents a work born from the voices of young people from the Ukrainian city. Created through interviews, questionnaires, documentary theatre practices and collective creation, the performance follows Stefania, known as Alaska, a young woman forced to leave her city because of the war.
Her story becomes a starting point for a series of monologues, songs and testimonies that question adolescence: loneliness, friendship, love, depression, sexuality, abuse and family. Following the destruction of the theatre and the death of Iryna Rudenko, Alaska has become a living, multilingual work, recreated in each country with different performers alongside the young Ukrainian actors in exile.
The version created with ERT emerges from this process of residency and encounter. The performance is renewed specifically in each city, becoming a living and shared narrative in which different languages, bodies, testimonies and stories give form to memory, wounds and the questions of the present: an artistic message of peace addressed to the world.
