La Festa

(the party)

About this event

Starting from the supra, the traditional Georgian feast built around the art of the toast, Leonardo Manzan, a young yet already acclaimed playwright and director, constructs a perfectly crafted stage machine.
The supra is a marathon of wine, food and solemn speeches: when the glasses are empty, it all begins again, until exhaustion. Taking part in this ritual are a European tourist and three Georgian actors. One glass after another, memories and still-open wounds resurface: street demonstrations, personal stories, and the history of the Georgian New Theater, which has been subjected to censorship and closed for more than a year.
After premiering at the GIFT Festival in Tbilisi with Glory Wall and directing the Georgian-language version of his concert-performance Cirano deve morire, Manzan renews his relationship with Georgia in a work co-written with Rocco Placidi.
La Festa is a political and emotional device: a way of telling the story of a country caught between anger, friendship, the desire to resist and hope. When everything around us is falling apart, can we still find a reason to celebrate?
