Arlecchino nel futuro
About this event
Commedia dell’Arte meets science fiction in an original contemporary farce that questions the future of humanity, conceived by Mariano Dammacco and Serena Balivo.
Northern Italy, a century from now. Humanity has not gone extinct, there was no atomic war, and no asteroid has struck the Earth. Yet it has become unbearably hot, and humankind is ready to migrate to the Moon in search of a better life.
Using the farcical language typical of Commedia dell’Arte, the duo of director, writer, and pedagogue Mariano Dammacco and actress Serena Balivo create a play starring Harlequin—the most beloved mask of the tradition—facing humans, androids, and spaceships. In a language that blends Italian with a “lightened” Venetian dialect, the story follows Harlequin’s futile attempts to find a way to reach the Moon. With a criminal record weighing him down, he decides to continue scheming by pretending to be an android. How will it all end?
A special homage to Commedia dell’Arte, the show offers a fresh perspective on our present and invites reflection on the kind of future we want to build.
