Oedipus’ story is a typical fairy tale of magic. Issued from the fertility cults of ancient civilizations of the rivers. The womb of old mother earth welcomes the young seed that penetrates it to hide, sleep and generate a fruit. What happens down there, when the seed is macerating and dying underneath, during winter? Which story is hidden inside the earth? How can we get inside and see it?
The Sphinx knows it but only those who solve the enigmas will see the curtain open. Only when children find a solution to the obscure questions, they will be able to enter the earth cave where a seed, kept inside it, reveals to a man: Oedipus.
Co-founder of Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, now Societas, Chiara Guidi has been developing for over twenty years the idea of infantile theatre and vocal experimentation. By investigating childhood and voice, she wants to question theatre and make it a sound experience through language and speech. There is an intuition connecting childhood and voice: theatre needs the revolutionary strength of children who can easily jump into the void by means of their imagination and through their games. This allows you to test the language and then listen to what is not there, but is there at the same time.
Infact, language is not present to the infant as a whole; the child operate on it by conditioning it. Here is the voice, which is sound, and carries within itself the manifestative force of music. This is how the voice leads to words bringing to speech the strength of the untold. The theatrical exercise practiced by Chiara Guidi in a vocal key and with a childish vocation, wants to experience another vision of the world through the game. A vision in which sound becomes palpable and shapes are converted into each other. This is what happens when children takes a chair as a horse.
