La notte

Delbono presents the performance-concert La Notte, represented for the first time in June 2014 at Teatro Argentina in Rome within the festival ‘Il Garofano verde’ conceived by Rodolfo Di Giammarco. For the first time Delbono confront himself with Bernard-Marie Koltès giving voice to ‘The night just before the forests‘, represented on stage for the first time in Avignon in 1977 and remained a stabbing voice in the contemporary literature until Koltès’ death in 1989. An almost autobiographical journey for Delbono. The show begins with the reading of a letter by François, Bernard-Marie Koltès’ brother, who gave Delbono his consensus  to cut, operate, almost tear up the original text, in order to weave two lives and two voices. A strong, defiant, angry monologue by Delbono, accompanied by Piero Corso’s guitar, plaid with great musicality, modulating his voice, tones and rhythms.

La Notte finishes with a letter by Bernard-Marie to his mother: to the critic of thinking only to sex, the author answers talking about his concept of love, with biting words, but at the same time sweet and gloomy in order to express the feeling of resistance to nonsense of the world that surrounds us.
