About this event
After the international success of Il cielo non è un fondale (The Sky Is Not a Backdrop), Daria Deflorian and Antonio Tagliarini are back with a new production inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni’s Red Desert. In the folds of the silence of Antonioni’s masterpiece, the duo listen to the film’s main character: “What should I do with my eyes? What should I look at?”. Following her footsteps, they decide to focus on what is there instead of looking at what comes to pass or at what we cannot or can no longer see. Antonioni investigates the post-war historical changes, which he calls “alienation”. In this urgency, calling for ever-increasing levels of adaptability, Deflorian and Tagliarini focus on the pertinence of a petrified glance or look. They extend their field of investigation to the interstice between appearance and reality in order to develop a dialogue between fictional and real, inside and outside, stories and histories, great and small. Like Antonioni’s film, the play depicts a sick, paradoxical world through an anti-realistic tension. This world appears in all its beauty but we no longer know how to look at it.
