Faust
Made, Not Said
About this event
Romeo Castellucci takes on Faust, one of the great myths of Western thought. A central figure on the international contemporary art scene, Castellucci confronts a character who has questioned the limits of the human for centuries. With FAUST, he does not create a simple adaptation of Goethe, but brings the character back to the enigma from which he originates: a man who, before meeting Mephistopheles, has already encountered emptiness, the loss of meaning and the crisis of language. He has already encountered evil.
The myth becomes visual and sonic matter. Faust is conceived as an artist who holds his gaze in the darkness of his own time. Condemnation and redemption are one and the same. In a space of shadows, apparitions and enigmatic presences, Castellucci opens a “second world” within the first, where fact overcomes the crisis of language and the image carries with it what language can no longer contain.
