Le Palestriti | Falling into dance, with Isadora
About this event
Simona Bertozzi presents two works in a single evening, both exploring the body in motion: a community of female athletes and a study in homage to Isadora Duncan.
Le Palestriti was created as part of Athletes, the project through which the choreographer investigates the relationship between dance, sport and vocality. Inspired by the Roman late-imperial mosaic of the Palestriti at Villa Romana del Casale in Sicily, the work brings to the stage a rare representation of female athletic competition in antiquity: not only individual beauty and strength, but a community coming together and recognising itself through a collective experience.
2027 marks 150 years since the birth and 100 years since the death of Isadora Duncan. Falling into Dance, with Isadora is the new project dedicated to the American dancer: a work that will take shape through a research and composition process developed over the two-year period 2026–2027. This first public sharing introduces some of the key elements of the creative process through notes, quotations, physical practices, musical materials and brief “choreographic molecules”.
Presented together in the same evening, the two works bring to the fore central elements of Bertozzi’s artistic research: shared gesture, the relationship between body and music, and movement as a living experience.
