Núria Guiu explores the relationship between the body, images and digital culture, turning yoga into a lens through which to examine the body, power and spirituality in the digital age. In Spiritual Boyfriends, presented in Italy for the first time, she starts from a practice that has become widespread in the West – yoga – to question what often remains hidden behind the idea of wellbeing: self-discipline, control, image-making, power dynamics and the desire for perfection.
The solo engages with postural yoga, creating a visual iconography that ranges from nineteenth-century Indian masters to contemporary YouTubers, from Holi festivals to images circulating online. With irony, precision and autobiographical material, Guiu observes how a discipline rooted in spirituality has also become an industry, a fashion, a form of bodily self-display and a promise of healing. The body on stage thus becomes a space where pop culture, anthropological research, desire, control and the need to believe in something converge.
