About this event
Kepler-452 meets the actors of Tumanishvili Theatre in Tbilisi for a documentary performance about Georgia today. A story of expectations, desires and relationships shaped by international migration.
A mother tries to explain to her young daughter why she will never see her best friend again. On a Facebook group, a Georgian care worker writes a guide for women from her country who have emigrated, explaining how to go unnoticed. After thirty years driving a taxi in New York, a man returns to the theatre where he once worked and auditions for the role of Hamlet.
The performance is built from the biographies of the Georgian performers and interviews with those who have left, those who have stayed, and those who have been forced to return. A collection of true stories, an album of snapshots — of absences and resilience — that is at once reportage and poetic inquiry, looking at Georgia and its diaspora.
In Georgian, “to leave the country” can also mean “to go away” or “to die”.
Following A Place of Safety, winner of the 2025 Ubu Award for Best Production, Kepler-452 once again engages with real lives, borders and collective wounds.
